隨著美國準總統川普當選後，美中台關係前景不明，眼下對蔡政府而言，兩岸尋求替代性論述，進而恢復官方交流往來確實有其必要；面對大陸釋出的彈性更應審慎以對，而非單方面提出後要求另一方自行解讀，唯有如此，兩岸政治互信僵局才可望有突破空間。

大陸之所以同意兩岸研商「九二共識」的替代性方案，某種程度也是把問題回丟給蔡政府。誠如許多大陸涉台學者所言，「九二共識」還是好用，蔡政府既然不用，那就提出新共識替代，且看蔡政府如何接招。
